Garlic+Butter Baked Blue Crabs- Instagram Week

I am going to do a little something different this week since I am in a different kind of mood lately. I have found myself becoming more and more attracted to instagram food photography. I think it is beautiful and “different”, old school and a more realistic (in some circumstances) view of food. Therefore, having never really shown you my instagram food pictures I think now is the perfect time- don’t cha think? I will be posting today and then again on Thursday and I so hope you enjoy this new little feature of mine. Sharing and Pinning them is encouraged but not required! LOL!

Up first is my Garlic and Butter Roasted Blue Crabs. I have not once seen such beautiful crabs at my local store as I did the other week. They were calling out to me and I accepted their call! I immediately brought them home, bathed them in a sea of butter, garlic, shallots, thyme and red pepper flakes and then so graciously preceded (with my trusty seafood loving husband of course) to dig in. You would be surprised to find how amazingly simple cooking crabs really is. There is no need to boil them, if you buy them already cleaned then its just a matter of the right herbs, seasonings and sauces and a little oven time. The recipe is my go to when cooking anything from shrimp, scallops and fish and it never fails. I hope you will give crabs a try next time you are in the store. They are just a little thing- don’t let them intimidate you!

Garlic-Butter Baked Blue Crabs

Ingredients
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons garlic, minced
  • 1 cup dry white wine
  • 1 TBSP Spanish Thyme
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp salt and pepper each
  • 14 blue crabs, cleaned
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. To a saucepan on medium heat, add butter and olive oil. Add garlic and sauté until lightly browned, 2-3 minutes. Remove pan from heat and add wine, oregano and salt and pepper, to taste. Return pan to heat and sauté contents for another 1-2 minutes.
  2. Place cleaned crabs on a baking sheet, belly-up. Spoon contents of garlic and oil mixture evenly onto each crab. Place baking sheet in oven and bake until meat becomes bright white and claws turn red in color, about 20 minutes.

Heard of instagram, but not sure what it is all about! LOL!
Your crabs are looking tempting good! I love seafood, and crabs are definitely one of our favourite! I don’t mind getting my fingers all dirty for this! Yummy!

Hey girl! Ok, sadly I found something that we don’t have in common and that is fish. I have to admit that I’m not a seafood person. I don’t know what it is, but raw fish, crabs, lobster kind of freak me out. The only seafood that I will attempt to cook is salmon and shrimp. Actually, I make my hubby cook the shrimp as they freak me out when they are raw. I think this dislike of seafood is a result of my childhood. My dad loved to fish when we went camping. He use to come back to the site with these huge fish that he caught. One year he came back with a huge blue fish and he asked my brother and I to de-scale it and to help him cut it etc. I was so grossed out that to this day I remember how gross the whole process was and how I couldn’t get the smell out of my hands etc. Plus, blue fish tastes so disgusting and super fishy. I don’t think stores even sell it. I do love sushi and ahi tuna, but it has to be prepared for me.
Ok, so there’s my background story on fish 🙂
Your Instagram pictures are so pretty. My daughter just got onto Instagram with her peeps and I’m going to ask her for a tutorial as I don’t understand how to do it. You have to take the photos with your phone and use the Instagram app right? Is that what you did or did you take photos and then put them Instagram? So confused over here!

Ok, I got your Be-Betsy info. I will get on that today. It was a super busy week as we had guests in town and it was my 3 BFF”s birthdays, you get the drill. I’m making a pact that you and I are finished with these chain type blogger things. Ok? Sound good sister?
Have a wonderful day off with your boys!
    xoxo, Jackie

Great idea, but did you know that on Instagram if you leave your content public, then it automatically becomes the property of instagram:

Instagram does NOT claim ANY ownership rights in the text, files, images, photos, video, sounds, musical works, works of authorship, applications, or any other materials (collectively, “Content”) that you post on or through the Instagram Services…

except Content not shared publicly (“private”) will not be distributed outside the Instagram Services.

So you have to change your profile to private. Not sure how that affects your followers!

I don’t think I’ve ever had blue crabs before and I have definitely never prepared them. I love that you baked them. I think even I can do that. Preparing seafood always intimidates me. I wonder if I can get blue crabs up here. I will have to Google that and then I will have to Google how to eat them. haha I don’t think I would know where to begin.

I am loving Instagram and more often than not, I’m photographing my food….and snow….and the grandbaby.. I would love to hook up with you there. My ID is michiamocandace if you want to find me.

I LOVE crabs! I used to wait for crabs season and I devour them… but I learned that I was allergic to crabs around mid 20s. I was devastated! Looking at these, I can’t stop drooling… so jealous! I can still eat little bit or that’s what I tell myself! What a delicious meal! You have instagram too? What’s your account? Find me! 🙂
